La Voute - Gite
“Peaceful & Comfortable - great place!”
Jackie Edmonds - on TripAdvisor - September 2013
We stayed here for a week and enjoyed every single moment. The gite is immaculate and very well equipped with everything you could need. Paula & John are so friendly and willing that we hated having to leave. The dogs made it for us - what a happy bunch they are !
Although in the countryside the area is so pretty and you are never far away from all amenities. The roads are quiet and well signposted. Cannot wait to go back again!
“A stunningly beautiful gite - in stunningly beautiful grounds”
Victoria Webster - on TripAdvisor - July 2013
We spent a week at La Belena in July 2013 - wished we had booked two! The gite was just as described and had everything that we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are steeped in history which John was very happy to chat about. The shared pool was just perfect to while away the sunny days. Paula and John were the most perfect hosts. They helped us endlessly. We would definitely recommend a stay at the property and we will be returning one day!!!
“Idyllic family holiday”
Bjorn H - on TripAdvisor - July 2013
This our second year at la Belena. Paula and John are wonderful hosts and are so welcoming and helpful. The location is superb - it is far enough from shops (10minutes for the morning baguette) to allow you to relax (one car goes past the end of the lane every hour) ..... but close enough to lots of great towns and markets and things to do for the whole family. The accommodation is so comfortable and the lovely little touches make you really feel at home. The pool is superb - you can relax in the pool and gaze out over the countryside completely chillaxed. The most perfect place for a busy young family to relax after a long UK winter and spring. If I won the lottery, this is what I would do with the cash!
“Great place to stay”

We spent a most enjoyable week at La Voute in 2011. The Gite was very well equipped and comfortable. Ours was a spring holiday in May so we did not make use of the lovely swimming pool. A ride on one of the carriages was a first for us. Paula and John are first class hosts who will go out of their way to make your holiday a special one.
Carriage Driving - Credentials
Here at La Voute we have worked with horses for many years and carriage driving has long been our passion. During this time we have imparted our knowledge to many people and take great pleasure in watching beginners gain in confidence and become increasingly proficient.
“As a UK CC level 2 coach and secretary to the Brockham Harness Club, I would rate Paula’s ability as an open club level competitor with the knowledge and ability to go further”
Jo Rennison, Former 3 times British National Champion, Team GB competitor
“I have known Paula for about 15 years and seen her competing at various club competitions here in the UK. She was a member of Brockham Harness Club for a number of years and also Windsor Park Club and qualified to compete at national level”
Dick Lane, National & International team driver & Team GB competitor
Carriage Course - Feedback
"My wife and I have just had a day's 'taster' course in carriage driving in the Charente.
It was held at the farm of a delightful young lady called Paula. We started off with a two wheeled cart and got an inkling of the amount of skill and dedication needed to control a horse and carriage.
After lunch we progressed to a four wheeled carriage and a larger (and more frisky) horse.
Goodness me! the power in that horse was phenomenal! Fortunately, we were just passengers, with Paula driving - it was pretty scary! If anyone would like contact details, send me a pm - I would highly recommend it!"
